Final week of football, results, and other news

Another week of football is officially in the books and a lot of bad has happened recently for Oklahoma fans. However, you shouldn’t worry because there is still hope for the future! OU has seemingly hit rock bottom, but that just means the only way they can go is up. I’ll talk more about this within these next two blog posts so let’s dive in.

South Carolina 31 – Clemson 30

I love college football. Every week is so crazy. Almost as crazy as me because I predicted the South Carolina upset over Clemson last week on my blog. Spencer Rattler is starting to become one of my favorite players. I still think he was fairly bad when he played for Oklahoma, but I also think that he has improved so much. What can I say? I’m proud of him! As I have said before, Clemson is overrated and Spencer Rattler wasn’t developed by Lincoln Riley (more on him later). South Carolina has developed Rattler to be the player that everybody wanted him to be. A part of me wishes that he was seriously being considered for the Heisman trophy (more on that too). Obviously he started his season really bad, but his draft stock is going up and he is clearly showing improvement. After taking down Tennessee, the upset-maker did it again without home-field advantage. I know you want me to talk about Oklahoma, but I just had to start this week’s blog with the final score of this game.

Oklahoma vs Texas Tech

Terrible loss. However, I will give Oklahoma some credit. The Sooners once again started off strong and finished weak, but OU did score points after the first half. The Sooners did keep it close. Unfortunately, my least favorite part of football ended the game- field goals. After a long back and forth game between offenses and defenses, it ended with everybody’s favorite game of “who’s the better kicker?”.

I appreciate kicking in football and I think it is an important aspect of the game, but I do not like clinching my teeth as my favorite team misses an important field goal. Congratulations Tech, you have a decent kicker.

USC rides off into the sunset

It appears that wide receiver Theo Wease will be leaving the Oklahoma and the cherry on top will probably be Caleb Williams winning the Heisman. Woohoo! I’m starting to sound a bit negative, but stick around for my next blog because I have good news (I promise.)

Anyway, to continue with this theme of negativity, Lincoln Riley is likely going to ride the coattails of the mythical Caleb Williams into the playoff bracket after CJ Stroud had a tough game against Michigan on Saturday. The Trojans play Utah in the Pac-12 Championship game. Utah has beaten them before, but only by throwing to Dalton Kincaid sixteen times. Literally sixteen times. I’m not even joking. As much as I want Utah to win, I think USC will be a little more prepared this time if they throw the football to the same guy every play. Who knows? Lincoln Riley has been known to coach bad defenses, so he might not have them prepared.

OU Bowl Game

I’ve heard of multiple possibilities of bowl games and none of them are extremely interesting. Although I have heard of a matchup against South Carolina. Would that be interesting?

What’s most important is that Oklahoma did become bowl eligible and could hold on to the great recruiting class that has been put together. This leads me to think that OU has a promising future, especially with the news of playoff expansion beginning in 2024. I will talk more about this in my next blog post, but until then don’t lose hope in the Sooners.

  1. […] writing this post without thinking I would be reporting a USC loss. The hilarious thing is that I mentioned last week that Lincoln Riley might lose if he coaches a bad defense. Well, that’s exactly […]
